Girl Up Club Instagram Account Deactivations
Did you know Girl Up has over 10,000 clubs across the globe? As more form each and every day, the number of Club Instagram accounts also rises. Over the past year, our friends at META Platforms (the media company that oversees Facebook and Instagram) have been confused by the creation of so many Girl Up Instagram accounts! Unfortunately, amid this confusion, META deactivated or suspended many accounts because they believed they were impersonating the global and regional Girl Up staff-led accounts (e.g. @girlup, @girlupindia).
To help prevent your Club Instagram account from being suspended, please take the following steps:
-
Be sure to follow @GirlUp and the account for the region/country your club is located in: @girluplatam, @girluparg, @girlupchile, @girlupperu, @girlupbrasil, @girlupmx, @girlupusa, @girlupuk, @girlupafricaofficial, @girlupindia
-
Update your club account’s Instagram bio to include (1) the name of your club and (2) the country your club is located in. Here is the updated bio for all clubs to use:
"[Your Club Name] in [your country] is a youth-led volunteer Club under @girlup, a leadership initiative founded by @unfoundation. Views expressed are our own."
If your Club Instagram account has already been suspended:
-
If you haven’t yet filled out this form to notify Girl Up staff about your account deactivation, please do so as soon as possible. The form is available in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
-
Please make sure all the info is correct when you submit the form. For example, ensure that the email address associated with your account is accurate. If incorrect information is provided, it will delay the restoration of your account. Do not fill out the form more than once; this will only further confuse and lengthen the reactivation process. Please note, Girl Up staff will assist with any new form submissions starting January 4, 2024.
-
Please do not contact META through other means. Girl Up is working directly with META staff to address all Girl Up Club account deactivations. Asking them for support individually, beyond completion of the above form, only further delays the process. Please know Girl Up is doing everything we can to work with META to address this issue. With patience and cooperation from Clubs following the above steps, we’ve been able to get a number of accounts reactivated with previous content and followers intact.
While the steps above can prevent a potential deactivation, we unfortunately can't prevent all META deactivations from occurring. If your account is deactivated, please follow the steps listed above before contacting Girl Up. While we want to get all accounts up and running as fast as possible, it can take up to 14 days for Girl Up to process and submit your reactivation request. Kindly note that due to the high volume of emails, Girl Up cannot provide a status update on your reactivation until two weeks after your request is made.
We appreciate your partnership in this process. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact [email protected].
Stay cool,
The Girl Up Communications Team
